Since 1976
Family Ministries of Florida has provided a safe family environment
for children who for one reason or another cannot live with their
parents. Christian couples serve as Houseparents. The
Houseparents provide nurturing and structure for the boys and girls
that live in their homes. The family has a daily devotion time
together, and each child is encouraged to have their own personal
devotion time. Along with individual and group devotions the
families are very involved with our local church. The children
are also involved with many different activities at the church
including Sunday school, youth group, drama team, youth choir, and
Bible Bowl.
Family
Ministries of Florida uses three different education paths.
First, Legacy Christian Academy is located on the campus of Family
Ministries of Florida. Legacy Christian Academy offers a
unique individually paced program designed around the needs and
educational level of the child. Second, a private Christian
school for those children that need more of a traditional learning
environment. Third, the local public elementary school for
those children in grades kindergarten through 5th grade.
Family Ministries recognizes that every child learns differently and
has different educational needs, and it is the goal of Family
Ministries to provide the best educational opportunity for each
child.
Several years
ago, Family Ministries developed a philosophy of Work Hard, Play
Hard and Pray Hard. Work Hard includes such things as keeping their
rooms clean and organized, daily chores in the home, and outside
work such as mowing and pulling weeds. We find that working
helps the child reflect on their daily lives and gives them the
opportunity to learn responsibility and how to take pride in their
accomplishments. Play Hard includes such things as playing
games as a family, playing outside as a group, and some of the
children play organized sports either at school or with a local
club. Pray Hard includes individual devotions, family devotions,
involvement in church, and developing a personal relationship with
God.
